Freemans Mill Park

Location: Gwinnett County, Georgia

Following our preparation of the Alcovy River Gristmill Historic Structure Report, Lose & Associates developed a master plan to provide recommendations for the scope of the restoration efforts needed at the mill and dam and to plan supporting passive recreation amenities for the overall mill property. The resulting master plan recommended raising the mill on a new foundation system designed to withstand the forces of the Alcovy River and the stabilization of the accompanying mill dam. The surrounding site was designed with a passive recreation facility program that included a playground (complete with an interactive play water feature demonstrating mill and hydraulic properties), a small pavilion, a shade shelter, a small restroom,  a series of walking trails and overlooks, and an interpretive area including an exhibit building and plaza for the display of interpretive panels. Lose & Associates was then retained as part of the overall design team to prepare construction documents for all site related components, many of which included sustainability principles to reduce the development’s overall stormwater impacts.
