Kentucky State Parks Planning
Lose & Associates was hired to develop the master plan for the approximately 500-acre E.P. “Tom” Sawyer state park in Louisville, Kentucky. Using the information gathered in meetings with the Citizens’ Steering Committee and parks staff, a preliminary master plan and recommendations were made. These recommendations included separation of heavy-use from light-use activities, active recreation from passive recreation areas, secured from non-secured areas, and heavy-traffic from light-traffic areas, preservation of the pastoral character, mitigation of conflicts between park uses, and reduction of impacts surrounding the neighborhoods. The master plan included upgrading athletic facilities, a new community center, picnic facilities, dog park, trails and nature areas, parking, and upgrades to the maintenance facility and staff.
