KSU, Sports and Recreation Park Complex
Location: Kennesaw, Georgia
Client: Kennesaw State University and Kennesaw State University Foundation
In early 2009, Lose & Associates was selected by Kennesaw State University and the Kennesaw State University Foundation to design the new student intramural and club sports multi-purpose field complex. The assigned property contained many permitting difficulties in implementing a large field development, including a large lake and dam/spillway system that did not meet current safety standards, many wetland areas and several streams. Working with University and Foundation staff, we programmed multiple field layout options to explore optimum useable area and also minimal permitting impact and expense. We coordinated efforts to engineer multiple solutions to arrive at a revised spillway orientation through the Georgia Safe Dams Program and as few as possible jurisdictional impacts through the Army Corps of Engineers and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. The developed facility includes 4 multi-purpose soccer/lacrosse fields (three of which were developed with contiguous artificial turf), 4 lighted sand and volleyball courts, a club sports training facility with concessions and restrooms, a walking trail surrounding the lake (with bridges and boardwalks across wetland areas) and supporting parking and utility infrastructure.
