Wellness & Aquatic Center at Chester Freeman Park

Location: Cullman, Alabama
Client: City of Cullman Parks & Recreation Department

Lose & Associates was selected to develop a site master plan and construction documents for a new 67,000-square-foot family recreation and aquatics center. The Wellness & Aquatic Center includes 2 basketball courts, an indoor mezzanine walking track, a wellness/fitness center, a conference room, a sauna, offices, locker rooms/dressing rooms, a concessions area, a lobby computer lab, support equipment and storage spaces. The fitness area includes spaces for spinning, exercise equipment and aerobic exercise.

The indoor natatorium features a spa, a 6-lane competition pool with diving well and a 1-meter board, a leisure pool with a vortex therapy area with spray ring, and a zero-entry kids’ area with a portable drop slide. Outdoor aquatics include an 8-lane competition pool with diving well featuring 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. Adjacent to the competition pool is the outdoor leisure pool with large zero-entry beach and younger-child spray features. This pool extends into a large child play area with a dumping bucket, a pier, open flume slide and other play features. At the far end is a climbing wall. All pools are ADA accessible and include a waveless design that recycles overflow water to reduce water usage.

In June of 2011, this project won the State Quality of Life Award from the Alabama League of Municipalities.
